I loved reading about how you discovered Substack and what your early creator journey was like. That was so relatable in terms of feeling this push to create but not knowing where you should be doing it. And your insight about following your energy instead of the gurus is something I try to remind myself so often. The gurus can be *loud*, but listening to yourself will always be more fruitful and meaningful. Thanks, Alea!

Thank you so much Sheridan! 💖 I appreciate the time you took to listen to my story and leave a thoughtful comment 😊🤍 Stumbling upon Substack is definitely one of the best things that happened to me this year! Where else can we find such a supportive and lovely online community? 🥹

What a wonderful post Alea. Did you know I did the exact opposite? I actually posted videos on youtube for about a year before I called it quits. It gave me some good shooting and editig experience but it's not the route for me. I finally found a home here on Substack!

Congrats to you finally start writing here, best to take action for results show when you do.

Thank you so much Moon! 🙏🏻🤍

I had no idea you started on YouTube 😲

I really believe that everything happens for a reason and all of our experiences teach us a valuable lesson. The time you spent on YouTube was not a waste because it helped you gain clarity on what you truly want. Just like in my case, it wasn’t a mistake, but a redirection 😊 Plus, I'm sure the skills you learned will come in handy in the future!

I'm grateful that we both found our path and met here on Substack 💖

The biggest takeaway is, I'm certainly no longer camera shy and I don't cringe (much) after hearing my own voice a couple of times. I'm thinking of doing video posts here as well, so that experience certainly helps!

I'm really happy we connected here as well :)

There's really a lot that we can explore here on Substack~ I'm excited to see how much we'll grow in the next few years! ✨

Some brilliant snippets of inspiration here, Alea!

Love the idea of following your energy not just what the guru's spout.

Learning from mistakes is key, you are so right.

But the best bit for me was reading your footer - the cabinet of curiosities... that is a great way to highlight your favourite articles and signpost readers attention in that direction.

Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment, Tom! I really appreciate it 🙏🏻 I'm happy that you found value in my Cabinet of Curiosities too 😊

I got this inspiration from creators who also curate content in their newsletter and I've found lots of hidden gems! Just the simple act of sharing our favorite content can already help other people ✨

Hi Alea, I really resonated with how you felt overwhelmed managing your own WordPress blog. The expenses of paying for web hosing, is something else. But I'm glad you figured your way out. And great post btw ... Cheers to more substack wins

Yeah, I really didn't expect managing a Wordpress blog to be so overwhelming! 🤯

I see that your newsletter aims to solve this problem for beginner bloggers; that's truly a big help! ✨

Wishing all the best for your blog and newsletter 💖

I had a comment in mind as I was writing about your journey, then as I reached the Cabinet of Curiosities I broke out in a massive smile and have honestly forgotten what I was going to say. What a nice surprise that was to see my newsletter get a mention. Thanks Alea 😁

So flicking back through my comment was going to be about mistakes. I'm all about trying to teach people how to benefit from the mistakes of others, especially my children. But the truth of it all is that you can read things with the best intentions but you don't really learn, unless it's through experience.

So I'm all for making as many mistakes as possible, then learning from them so they don't get repeated!

Great post Alea, keep it up 😊

I agree that experience is the best teacher. It's great to listen to advice and learn from other people's mistakes, but it often leads to this pressure to get everything right and perfect because we think "we should've known better." But the reality is, we'll still make mistakes and that's okay 🤍 It's an important part of the learning process 😊

I love reading your posts because we are very much alike, though I'm sure we're different on other levels. I wanted to ask you something: what do you hope to get out of this experience on substack? What would you like to achieve? What is the reason for your writing here? Your answers could help me find my way too. Thank you :)

Thank you so much Pameladn 🥹 Hmm.. I write simply to express myself and hopefully inspire and provide value to others along the way. I know that I'm not the only one struggling on this journey as a new creator. All the fear, confusion, and so on — I write about them and document my growth. I hope that in the future, I'll be able to contribute a solution to these problems I encountered and help aspiring/beginner creators through my own products, courses, and so on 💖

Thanks for giving me a space in your Cabinet of Curiosities(love the name). I think you'll be able to build that confidence to show your face in future. Most people (including myself) are afraid to share the story behind their decisions, but you do it very well

Thank you so much Lina! 💖 What do you create content about on YouTube and how did you discover Substack? I'm really curious 😲

Substack is a great place for you to start your writing journey! 🤍 What I love here is that there's no pressure to post long-form content that frequently. You can write at your own pace and just experiment 😊

On YouTube my channel is a journey into a more "natural" lifestyle in terms of products and food, but I found it tedious editing videos.. and I cringe at making videos still, so "introvert me" has always wanted to blog and I think this platform gives me the easiest entry. My most recent journey has been as a caregiver for a parent with dementia and I feel like there is so much I want to say and do to help caregivers not feel alone.
